How to Organize Clothes in Your Closet at Your Apartment

As time goes on, closets tend to become a messy, free-for-all for clothing and accessories. The addition of new clothes coupled with the refusal to get rid of old ones can turn your closet into a stressful place rather than a convenient one. But, by following these simple steps, you can reclaim your closet and utilize it with ease:

  • Remove everything from your closet, leaving it completely empty.

  • Separate all of your clothing into three piles, one that includes all of the clothes you still wear and want to keep, one that is clothing that is damaged or stained that you will throw away, and one that is for donating (clothing that is still in good condition but you will never wear).

  • Take the time to clean your closet thoroughly. Wipe down all of the shelves and walls, and vacuum or sweep the floors.

  • Hang as much clothing as possible on hangers and organize the clothing based on similar styles. For example, put work clothes, regular t-shirts, tank tops, dress pants, jeans, all next to each other to keep everything organized and easy to find.

  • Any additional clothing that could not fit on the pole should be folded and kept together either inside of a drawer, on shelves, or in bins.

  • Place bulky jackets or anything else that won’t get used very often on the overhead shelf.

  • Organize your shoes by style such as dress shoes, sandals, boots, tennis shoes, etc. and place them neatly on the floor or invest in a shoe rack.

Once you have organized your closet it is important to keep it that way. Taking the little extra time to put everything back where it belongs can save you time and stress in the long run. The Quarters Apartment Homes have roomy closets that you can easily keep organized.
